Presented by: Katherine Cleveland, OTR/L, CLVT, Lead Occupational Therapist at The Wilmer Ophthalmological Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.


This CE course summarizes what can be expected during a low vision home safety assessment. The course is divided into 5 lectures.


In the first lecture, Ms. Cleveland explains when a low vision home safety assessment is appropriate and in the second lecture she discusses the common visual impairments of clients with low vision.


The last three lectures describe the functional implications of these visual impairments as well as common co-morbidities that may need to be considered when performing a home safety assessment. The appropriate techniques, devices and modifications to address these impairments are also discussed.


In addition, there are Home Assessment Exercises. The exercises provide the student with a video clip of a simulated home environment and a case study scenario to recommend modifications to the home of the client with low vision. There are also two interactive, 3D simulated scenarios that reinforce the course content.


Note that some organizations award credits, while others award content hours.
